How can I set up a custom DNS Intranet service with TLDs?
I remember ages ago an associate created a DNS service of sorts. I put it in my internet options and was able to register domains like http://word.bin/ and basically anything.custom.
I'd like to do this for the novelty. Is it overly complicated? How can I do it? Thanks!

That will only work on your local network or anyone who specifically uses "your" nameserver(s) that you run. It will not propagate to root servers or anyone who does not use your nameserver(s) unless you have a domain registered with an official registrar, and point that registrar to public names or IPs of your nameserver(s) as authoritative for your domain.
But it is useful for learning about DNS. I did that in Linux to give my local computers names (both forward and reverse zone file, to resolve names to IPs and IPs to names).
