Do supermarkets think customers are stupid?

Supermarkets would love to increase prices reward their shareholders! But since 2008 banks ho-ha & government bailing them out, (& guaranteeing bailins in the event of another liquidity crisis, yep people's bank accounts can be raided to "aid" bankers self inflicted greed & foolishness & stupidity), and workers wage increases being restricted unlike Government' & CEO

remuneration packages, shoppers WON'T put up with price increases. Hence supermarkets don't increase prices by playing around with the products bought! The product content decreases!

An open secret!

Fresh produce from non supermarkets IS cheaper, actually fresher, but most of all value for money!

Supermarkets have an advantage, they demand from their suppliers LOWER prices, or they can take their produce else where! But the rewards always go to their shareholders!

If questioned supermarkets will come up with umpteen excuses to justify their prices! They "add value" by packaging it! If buy loose can see if produce is harbouring mold! When packaged its only on opening realize produce is not 10/10.

Markets buy produce at varying prices during the year, and mark them up to make a profit so they can stay in business. Grapes and other produce get spoiled or damaged a lot, so much of it has to be destroyed.
