Do not insert any parentheses unless you mean it. My guess is that the whole point of this exercise is to use the order of operations. Taken as it was written, there is only one correct interpretation.

    6² ÷ 2(3) + 4

    = 36 ÷ 2(3) + 4

    = 18(3) + 4

    = 54 + 4

    = 58

    Order of Operations:

    1. multiply 2(3) = 6

    2. compute 6^2

    36/6 + 4 = 10

Multiplication and division have the same priority and are performed left-to-right.

    6²÷ 2(3) + 4 = 36÷2(3) + 4 = 18(3) + 4 = 54 + 4 = 58

Use more parentheses to avoid ambiguity.

Taken with standard operator precedence in mind:

    6² ÷ 2(3) + 4 becomes (6² ÷ [2(3)]) + 4 = 10

PEMDAS: Parentheses, exponents, multiplication and division from left to right, addition and subtraction from left to right.

    6^2 / 2(3) + 4

    36 / 2(3) + 4

    36 / 6 + 4

    6 + 4

    10
