Polychromos vs Prismacolor?
I'm looking to get a new set of pencils but I'm unsure of which brand to buy (i've always used derwent before but wanna 'upgrade')
I'm kind of leaning towards prismacolor right now since there are more colours available and apparently they are 'smoother' and I have even seen them described as 'buttery' :P
So which are better?

Neither! I use Caran D'ache Luminance and they rule. I love the Prisma Colour Verithin's for graphic work, but the Prisma Premiers are far too unreliable. Leads of off centre (as you can see in the various images) and they break ..consistently. I was also concerned at the carrying types of wood used... or so it would seem (look at image in link).

Poly's are OK, but nothing, and I mean nothing compares to Luminance Pencils. I managed to buy a basic set, and I add to my collection by purchasing colours individually.

Are they worth the money? Totally. I ditched my unreliable Prisma Premiers soon after and got rid of my 47 Poly collection and I haven't looked back since.
