What size of reflector telescope is best for viewing the Andromeda galaxy?

I'd like to buy one but not more than $1,000 I'd like to be able to view the spiral arms with it if possible. Would they be viewable with a 4mm 6mm 8mm?

Thanks kindly

Ummm, although andromeda is a spiral galaxy, we see it side on, and we can't see the spiral arms clearly, even in large telescopes.

You can see the spiral arms better in the triangulum galaxy, or M51, or M101

Bigger is better. An 8 in telescope is capable of observing the spiral nature of M51, but you won't see much unless you get more than 12in.

Start by joining a local club: better equipment, and good advice.

You have a lot of choices with $1000. You can get 8-10 inch Dobsonians for that which are a nice middle ground between size and portability.
