why do stores put items at the entrance?

Why do some stores have items right near the doors? Dont they ever think that someone could just walk in and grab an iten and walk out with it easily??? It just seens crazy to me. Anyone know why?

    Its to draw people in, the items close to the door are usually ones just showing what can be bought. Along the lines of 'just walking out' cctv is usually every where in areas around shops and it would be quite easy to get the exact or brief face of the theif. The items are kind of a draw-in to the shop.

    I work at a big pharmacy chain and I notice that all the time too. I think it is just to catch the eye of the consumer the second they enter the room. Overall I think its a good tactic and most likely it outweighs the chance of losing the product.

    a lot of stores put lots of cheap, colorful stuff near the doors to stimulate impulse buying
