In Walking dead, did the governor lose an eye, or was it just permanently covered?

I ve seen the show & the scene where Michonne stabbed him in his right eye. He woke up at some doctor s office if I remember correctly? Did he lose his actual eye or was it just covered up forever.

Update:

I know for a fact that he lost his right eye in the show? Someone said he lost his left, did he lose his left in the comic version? I never read.

I meant to say "read it".

    in the show his eye was cut by Michonne...never lost it. In the comic Michonne scooped out his eye and chopped of an arm. She would have done more but she ran out of time
