Does Religion take away Individual freedom?

Is there such a thing as an open - minded religion that accepts all things / beings of life or not?

for example:

God is both good and evil for how else would it exist from a religious persons perspective?

God made Satan yet he/she condemns him even though whatever he/she made is derived from God.

Update:

Some people are born into religious family's which don't give them a choice to make up their own mind about things without putting shame to themselves or their family.

This is what I meant by taking away their freedom

    god made satan because he wanted people to make a choice of being good or evil, so he had to make something evil for them to choose to be. and god is He
