Kilowatts usage doubled?!?

We have lived in our new home for a few months now and have had three actual readings and one estimated. All three actual readings were within 100 kw of one another, this months actual was more than double all three of the others. Why on earth would this happen?

Mind you...

-Our air unit is brand new and the thermostat is programmed. We have not touched it since we moved in.

-All major appliances are brand new.

-Temp has gone up a bit but it has not caused the air to kick on any extra.

Anyone have any thoughts?

The only thing that is new is we had two garage door openers installed but of course using those a couple times a day is not enough to make it double in usage.

A/C is a major part of your electrical bill but other large users are your water heater, dryer and stove. A garage door opener is not a large KW item. Higher outside temps will make a large cost difference, hot water is next with long hot bathes or hot water used for washing clothes (this happens a bunch without noticing it). The stove and dryer would only be a big ticket item if you started cooking or drying clothes a LOT.

Look at your electric company bill and see if they are charging you peak KWH prices, places like AZ-CA-NV charge a lot more on there new peak usage meters because they are buying the electricity from back east during brownout usage. Most major cities have energy saver smart switches you can get on your AC unit to alleviate the peak KWH price.

Anytime you have an estimated reading mixed in with actual readings it tends to cobble up the information. I would wait one more month to see what the next reading is.
