Is putting a jolly rancher in your drink unsafe?

I usually put a jolly rancher in my drink to make it more tasty, and whatever. But I left a cup out for a few days and there was fuzzy mold type stuff growing in it, I don't know what it was, but it made me want to puke. It was just a cup of water that I dissolved a jolly rancher in. But the fuzzy mold was floating in the water and stuff. Is it unsafe to put jolly ranchers in my drinks? I don't want to drink poisonous stuff and stuff.

Here's a hint: Food + Food = Food. Obviously, if you can eat a Jolly Rancher, and you can drink your drink, then if you put them together, you can still ingest them.

Leaving ANY kind of food or drink out "for a few days" will make them go bad.

If you can eat the jolly ranchers, then it's safe to put on your drink!

For a few days? Something had gotten in there, I wouldn't drink it!

Well once you dissolve them you change their nature, it is also possible that some other contaminant got into the cup since you left it out. Leaving anything out for a few days once you have changed it's nature is not always a good idea.

They are fine, just do not dissolve and leave them out.

  • There's always microbes in the air unless you're living in a cleanroom. Microbes love sugar. Over time they collect in the cup and multiply and you get stuff visibly growing. I'd be more concerned if NOTHING grew in it :)

Any liquid left exposed to the atmosphere will get contaminated by wild yeasts and other organisms. And if there is sugar in the liquid then all kinds of things might start to grow there.

    Chuck it away.

You put sugar in a liquid and left it - do that with any sugar drink and that will happen. this has nothing to do with putting sweets into drinks
