how do i ask for more hours at work?

I work at Wal-Mart and I've been working there for three months now anyway last month I was working nearly 40 hours a week but now I'm lucky to get 25 a week and I really need more hours so I can pay a unexpected medical bill. How do I go about asking for more hours without sounding rude or pushy

You can ask your manager if there's any chance you can get more hours, but your chances aren't good. They schedule people based on store needs, not on your need for more money. To give you more hours, they'd have to give someone else less, and the other person probably needs the money too.

You ask, and make yourself available to cover other people. But you can't demand. If there's no work for you do to, there's no work for you to do.

"Hi, Ms. Thumbapple. I noticed you've been scheduling me for fewer and fewer hours. Are you unhappy with my work? I'd like to get back to the forty or so hours I was working before."
