What would make you lose all hope?

I'm working on a new story an I think I want the theme to be hopelessness. What would have to happen to you to make you give up hope? And what do you think are some of the biggest problems humanity is facing today?

The same problems we have always faced, sacrificing the future for the now, Now, NOW!

Hopelessness as a theme applied to people would be deeply personal and individual. Some themes related to hopelessness would be isolation, loneliness, futility, despair and false hope among others.

The diagnosis of early onset degenerative senile dementia would crush me 100% I think.

Personally, hopelessness in my mind is losing all my friends, all my family, and having the feeling of abandonment or... hopelessness.

On the scale of humanity, I'd say fair rights, war and peace, and "end of the world" scenarios. But, those have almost always been concern.
