Can't remove engine fan?
I'm wondering if it's safe to drill between the pulley and the fan boss to make a gap to lever off a tight fan? Will doing this lead to later failures?

Boss is tight on w'pump nut inside it. Cannot separate boss from pulley because too tight. Need a wedge point. is this a valid way to make one? NB I will grind some edges on back of boss once it's off for next time.

What are you working on? yr,mk,eng.
From what I can see if you remove the four nuts behind the fan clutch you should be able to grab the fan on either side and just wiggle it back and forth until it falls off. I wouldn't drill anything.

You heat the fan nut with an oxyacetylene torch and then use a large open end wrench on the nut. The nut is probably left hand thread. Hit the wrench with a 5 lb. hammer after the heat soaks through the whole nut.
