My guy friend I like is flirting with me?

We've known each other for a year and we have only hung out twice outside of school but the other day all we did was talk for like 4 hours and I already asked the question If he is flirting and people said he is so how do I get to know him better and give little hints that I like him I've been flirting too but Along with getting to know him I don't want to be stuck in the friend zone I know how that feels and it sucks so is there something I could do that's not to drastic but is more than just talking and getting to know him more cause I do know him we were in the same classes for a year and sat with each other so it's not like he's a stranger
