Why do some men/guys like to hold onto things that their partner gave them ?

Before I left from Texas this year of June, When I was visiting my partner, I asked him did he want this hair oil that I use for my hair. He said sure. But It's a fruity/mango scent, it's yellow and I had it sealed with a green lid/top which is my favorite color. He knows as well. Recently, I asked him did he ever used it since I left and he said no, he still has it. I'm like huh ? Lol. But before I left He did use some of it when I asked him if he wanted to try it, he said he liked it lol. Is there a reason why he still has it and not used it ? I think it's kinda sweet of him 😇
