What dog can be alone for 30hrs a week?
Nice family up for having a dog, but I work and my daughters are working, college and school. My youngest who is 14 does 30 hours a week at school and would walk it etc (she wanted the dog!) we don't want to leave the poor dog alone for long as we know they are social animals and dedicated to their owners, as we would be. But of course, we can't change jobs or drop school. Willing to adopt, I was wondering if there was a certain breed, size or age of dog that would be suitable to be independent for 6 hours 5 days a week. If not so we won't be acquiring a dog into our home for its sake. I appreciate all answers.

I have had numerous dogs in my life and have had dogs who were left along for 8 or more hours a day, or were with me for 8 or more hours a day at work. in the end they were all just as happy and well behaved. All to often people try an equate a dog, or any animal for that matter, to have the same emotions and or thoughts as a human. Clearly not the case. Could a dog be bored by being home for 8 hours a day? Sure, but just because you are home with the dog all day, does not mean it will not be bored also. Leave a few toys around for the dog to spend the time to play with on their own. To those of you who are being so negative, why do you think you are so wonderful that your dog want to hang out with you all day? Do not be so full of yourself, or so critical of others. Give the dog a pleasant place to stay, feed and water them, and let them get some exercise weather it is running around in the back yard chasing butterflies or birds alone, or going for a walk with you, they will be very happy, and treat you like a god.

No dog should be left alone for 6 hours a day - and you need to know that the dog may well be brought as a family dog... but once that puppy cuteness has gone away - the kids will lose interest. They won't want to get up early on a cold and rainy morning to walk it... ensuring they leave enough time for a shower before school and breakfast... on weekends they won't want to get up to feed it. They won't want to pick up the poo, or perhaps even clean up the vomit if it's sick...

Any new dog, even a rescue, will require someone home for about a month to help it settle in and train it not to fear separation. A puppy needs about six weeks. Aren't there any dog sitters in your area who could look in mid-day?

You are a busy mom and you have busy kids. It is apparent you want a dog and that you care.
I adore dogs, however I know that you will be frustrated if you cannot cope with the extra work.
The fact that you love dogs is inconsequential. Your kids won't help with it's care they will expect their mum to cope. Wait until your kids fly the nest and get a dog.

All. I leave my dog for 100hrs often. I just leave it with a dildo and tell it to do the dishes by the time I get back and have a sandwich ready

Yes, try the Cornish imaginary dog. You never have to walk it! Lol. JK. Try the Norwegian Buhund
