What was the mouse port before usb?

I have an older computer I still have stuff on I use. The mouse needs to be replaced and I don't have an empty usb port to plug into.

If you are referring a round connector with a semi circle of 6 pins, that connector is called a PS2 connector. Good luck finding one as they stopped making those a decade ago.

An alternative is a USB hub. It is a device with one USB plug that you plus into any port on the PC. It then as a "box" that usually has four (or more) USB ports on it. It increases the number of USB ports available to you. It is possible to attach up to 128 devices to a single USB port using hubs.

The hubs are also usually cheaper than a mouse or keyboard.

It is calles a PS2 port but usb hubs are cheap and allow 4 ports out with one in so you gain 3. If the ports need alot of power- get a powered usb hub. .

PS2 on a Windows machine and ADB on an older Mac.

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-PS-Optical-Wheel-Mo... is a currently available PS2 optical mouse, but there are still roller mice available as well.

http://www.amazon.com/Macally-Mouse-Adb-Mac-1-Butt... shows an ADB Mac mouse. Mac went to USB mice before they developed optical mice, so Apple only came with a roller mouse.

The third option is a USB mouse. http://www.staples.com/USB-Hubs/cat_CL162937 shows some. (I recommend one that has its own external power supply so that you don't draw too much power from the USB port on your computer, causing damage.) Connect the hub to a USB port on the computer and connect the USB devices (including keyboards and mice) to the hub.

They do make adapters that will let you plug a PS2 mouse into the parallel (printer) port. Check at Best Buy. Walmart or your local computer store. Look for a PS2 to Parallel adaptor.

PS2 if you wish to remain ancient. USB hub if you wish to crawl into the modern world. However I'm not sure if either will work on a "Getway" computer. Never heard of that brand.
