Did Moriarty actually shoot himself?
I have this theory that he was simply a pawn in the game of chess, and the same thing that was happening to Sherlock was happening to Moriarty, like with the threats. I think Moriarty was told to kill himself and if he didn't someone he loved dearly would be killed, so he had to shoot himself. Maybe the person he tried to protect is the new Moriarty?

This is an interesting theory and not entirely impossible. But there are so many theories. Perhaps Moriarty isn't dead. Perhaps he has a twin. Perhaps the returning Moriarty is actually just his web of followers. We'll have to wait and see, but your theory is certainly plausible.
