Windshield damaged by gasoline?
A really smart friend of mine helped me get pine sap off of my windshield by using gasoline. It took the pine sap right off but here about a week later. There are spots all over my windshield where the gasoline ate away at the glass. What is the best way to fix this. I have already learned that the best remedy for pine sap is rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer but how do I fix the gasoline damage?

As others say, the glass itself is okay but it probably has a wicked film on it. If none of the other solutions work for you, you can polish the area with cerium oxide (first source, for example). It is actual glass polish, the last stage in grinding telescope mirrors. I guarantee that will do the job. I recommend a polishing wheel to save your arms.

I would clean the windshield with alcohol and see it that clears it up - gasoline should not hurt the glass but may leave a residue.

Clean the glass with neat wash up liquid and warm water. Gasoline doesn't damage glass. You still have grease residue present.

Dittos to CB - gas won't hurt glass - - most "tar and bug removers" are just kerosene. Any solvent should remove the remaining residue: paint thinner, turpentine, mineral spirits, kerosene, alcohol......even a strong mixture of white vinegar & water. Acetone will too - but could damage paint so don't recommend.

You have to use a solvent to get the gasoline/pine sap mixture off the glass. Maybe lacquer thinner? Then warm soapy water.

Actually the best way to remove tree sap is visit your local auto detail store. There is a playdo looking thing that you use running water on the glass & body while rubbing it on as well. It removes the tree sap but doesnt harm the glass or paint

Phone around to a couple good auto parts stores and ask them if they have this product. It's amazing stuff, makes your windshield new again.

It's just residue from the gas/pine tar. The gas didn't eat your glass. Clean it with more gas, followed by alcohol.
