I would like to buy my friend's iPhone but we are with different providers?
My friend just got a brand new iPhone 5C as an upgrade, however, she does not need it so she is willing to sell it to me. The phone is in the box, never opened. We are, however, with different companies. Would that be a problem OR would the phone be locked to her plan/provider?

Unless the phone is already unlocked (from the carrier), I would not buy it.
But if you want o buy it and get it unlocked, go here first: http://www.imei.info/ plug in the IMEI or ESN and make sure it has not been reported lost/stolen and has been FULLY paid for.
Do not take your "friend's" word that the phone is a freebie with no strings.
