Freedom of speech?
Hi everyone I had a question about the first amendment in the USA. I live on a University campus and today a police officer came knocking on my door wanting to charge me with disorderly conduct because someone was yelling "profanities" out of their window at parents and they got offended. It turns out they had the wrong building so nothing came of it but can you really charge someone for yelling offensive words and cursing at someone else? Would that go against the first amendment. Just curios about the situation, thanks.

The First Amendment protects you from government action. There can be all sorts of limitations on your "free speech" depending on location and content.
Yes, you can be charged with disorderly conduct for yelling profanities at people.

Freedom o Speech covers you speaking out against the government and not having to without going to jail for it. However, it does not cover you verbally assaulting someone, cursing out someone, cursing at your neighbors, etc. Try this tomorrow...go up to your Boss or University President and curse them out and see what happens...lol

No. There are local nuisance ordinances that cover this sort of thing. Yelling profanity out your window is not "speech" anymore than yelling "Fire!: in a crowded theater (the classic example).
