RHH: Some randomass questions?

Usually I do these as NRHH, but there's some fun hip hop stuff to talk about for once:

1. What do you think of Lupe's Lasers Redemption project? Specifically, do you think Lupe is right to "destroy" an album (obviously not literally since the album already exists permanently online and in our collective consciousness) simply because fans generally don't like it?

2. What are your thoughts on BDK's comments about Macklemore's "Downtown"?

3. Have you been following the Funk Volume vs. Horseshoe G.A.N.G. beef? The diss songs released so far are pretty funny but it's nice to see a beef for once that isn't between a bunch of famous people. It's nice to be impartial for once.

lmao i was looking through my old account on here and saw you just posted a question a month ago. I'll answer some ****.

    1. I think it's a bit ridiculous, yeah Lasers is probably his weakest project but songs like Till I Get There and All Black Everything are still dope, it's part of his discography and he should accept that, just cause he had one really dope comeback album doesn't mean it's irrelevant. But he's the artist so who am I to say anything.

    2. Big Daddy Kane is delusional lol. He is too stuck in the basic rhyming, simple-lyrical times of the 80's and should realize we've came a long way from there. Yeah BDK is dope, along with a **** load of other 80's rappers, but regressing back to that state of music doesn't make it better than modern hip hop. Not to mention the song isn't very good.

    3. If only the beef lasted longer lol, I would love to see Hopsin in a real beef with back to back songs (no pun intended).

How you been man? I've been on Reddit's HHH section to keep up with and talk about Hip Hop for a while, it's 10x better than here lmao

    1. I don't remember a lot of the dialectics surrounding the album on its release but I remember him talking a lot of trash about the album because the record label wasn't giving him creative control. I respect Lupe as an artist but in general the publicity surrounding Laser makes my nose itch. Sometimes I don't think he's the symbol of authenticity and honesty that he makes himself out to be.

In any case, seems like a waste of time and strange publicity stunt even though he apparently likes the album now. Lupe kind of feels like he's trying to become something of an Emma Stone/Jennifer Lawrence in popular rap culture now. Between this, his statement on the Drake/Meek Mill beef, his reaction to Mos Def's challenge and the other beef statement there's been a lot of dialogue around him.

    2. BDK isn't exactly a third party, and it's cynical if not unreasonable to entertain the idea that he's just pandering for a feature himself (with that recent bullshit about him battling Rakim)...especially since his response is kind of confusing. I haven't been keeping up with news surrounding the song but from what I've read, people think (A) It's bad, and (B) It's a rip off of Uptown Funk, which is ludicrous. Disregarding any of that I generally am happy that Macklemore got to give some pretty big nods to his influences, even if I have mixed feelings about the song.

    3. Not at all, but I'll check the tracks.

    1. I ain't got time to be on that classic 2010 Trylemma listen to everything shiet, which means I ain't got time for rappers who have an overall track record of caca. So no more Lupe Fiasco. Ever.

    2. White liberal blog post-hipsters didn't know who Grandmaster Caz was until Macklemore brought him out at which point they hopped on their computers to whine about how Macklemore is mis-appropriating black culture.... they then returned to listening to Kendrick Lamar and fantasizing about the "struggles in the street." The crazy crazy things are though (1). Macklemore is already a better rapper than Kool Moe Dee, Caz or Melle ever were and (2). Macklemore done been shouting out everyone from Project Blowed to Oldominion both prior to his blow and after. These "Hip Hop Historians" wanna police how Melle Mel is used but couldn't give a shiet about Myka 9. That's "real" Hip Hop for you - and that's why you should take some of the criticism you throw at 14 year old girls that like Macklemore and re-direct it at these sites that do exactly what the god Big Daddy Kane is pointing out here - give lip service to vets only when there's someone to take the fall for things first.

    3. leb - there are millions of youtube videos out there of cute little kittens meowing...and you wanna listen to Funk Volume beefing with the Horseshoe Gang?
