Indoor Cannabis Growing...Metal Halide or HPS?
Question for you indoor Cannabis growers...My buddy and I are debating on whether or not HPS is better for indoor growing during the veg state or Metal Halide. I strongly lean towards the HPS just from past experience...He seems to disagree...Also, he seems to think that depriving the plants of water pretty much throughout their entire lives is a good thing when, if done, should only be at the cycle just before harvesting. I transplanted some of his plants into larger pots and encountered soil that was so dry around the roots, that the soil was literally dust...All this does is stunt the growth of the plants, in which it s currently doing. The plants should always have a well moistened soil at all times to ensure a fast, bountiful growth...Please correct me if I m wrong...Thanx for your time in advance

MH is best for veg growth b/c it offers more blue light, but HPS is hands down the best for flowering. I know growers who use only HPS lighting and they still have pretty plants, but for most growers they use MH for veg and HPS for flower.
I personally prefer T5's for veg b/c the light bill stays lower that month and they still grow just as big and bushy as with MH, but I always switch to HPS for flower.
As for the watering... I do like to starve the plants out a little before harvest, but I use my finger to judge if the plants need water. I usually wait until I can put the top two knuckles of my pointer finger in the pot and no longer feel any moisture in the soil at all. I then water my plants until about 10% of the water used runs out the bottom. This ensures the entire pot is getting watered and the plant wont dry out too much. Cannabis like dry soil, but not bone dry all the time.
The only thing I know for sure about growing cannabis is that every grower has their preferred methods and what separates good growers from great is their ability to adopt and try new growing techniques. If you swear by HPS lighting for veg and your friend swears by under-watering his plants why don't you both try what the other suggests and see how it works for you. If you don't like it go back to your preferred method next grow.
