Carnival cruise credit?

So my family booked a cruise for next summer. 2 staterooms because I was bringing a friend. We booked the one with the nonrefundable deposit so i know we won't get that back. But my friend who was supposed to be coming with us dropped out. My parents already started paying off theirs but I haven't started paying mine so I don't lose much. So now I believe my parents will have to cancel their reservation and rebook it to include me I. Their stateroom because the room they had was for 2 ppl. Will they get the money that they've already paid in the form of a credit that they can use towards the new booking? It would be the exact same cruise. Just a different room.

Because you are talking several months away your parents should have no problems doing a rebooking and any money that was used for the previous booking certainly can be applied for the new booking. The only time this becomes iffy is when someone does it 90 days or less before a sailaway. Because you are not asking for a refund on the deposit, but simply a rebooking, I am pretty sure you will loose nothing.

No prepaid money is lost prior to the final payment date except for the non-refundable deposits. You will lose both. This is assuming you booked directly with Carnival. If you used a travel agent he may have his own cancellation charges.

Hopefully you parent's room will hold 3. In that case I would think the only additional charge would be the 3rd person rate. If their room only holds 2 and they have to re-book hopefully Carnival will have some type of concession. Worst case is the lose of the deposits, not the prepaid fare.

NOTE: You should ask your friend to pay the charges since it was their fault.

No problem at all. I've been in a similar situation where I took money from a deposit on one ship and changed to a different (although affiliated) cruise line.
