Why is a California university education 45 times more expensive than in 1981.? Cigs are 5x more, gas is 4x more, rent is 3x more , food 2.?

The cost of education has not increased that much. What has increased tremendously is the percentage of the costs which must be paid by individual students. That is due to a dramatic shift away from the idea that the State should support higher education, which should instead be financed by students borrowing to pay the costs.
