No, the Illuminati as portrayed by conspiracy nutbags today isn't actually a thing. It was the name of a group in the 18th century who simply opposed religious nonsense and supernatural beliefs, but they were never any sort of shady society who wanted to control the world.

THAT idea of the Illuminati originated from anti-Jewish Nazi propaganda in the 1930s. A British Nazi sympathiser named Nessa Webster found out about the name from historical accounts of the original Bavarian Illuminati I mentioned before, and decided to use it to scare people into believing there was some Zionist conspiracy to take over the world.

Anyone who believes a bunch of lame musicians are part of a huge conspiracy aren't dealing with common sense. The Illuminati is a modern fiction, created by writers to sell books. There isn't one ounce of credible evidence to prove their existence. What there is, however, is a mountain of innuendo, pseudo history, bad rationalisations and outright lies.

The Illuminati DID exist. Note the use of the past tense. They were referred to as the Bavarian Illuminati and existed for a brief period of time 200+ years ago. They were intellectuals schooled in the ideals of the Enlightenment and sought to promote these ideals. The organisation was suppressed by the government and ceased to exist.

The ideals of the Enlightenment included such radical notions as all men are created equal, that people should have a say in government, reason will lead to the truth. Note that any of the so called proofs offered by conspiracy sites never include what they really stood for. They had nothing to do with devil worship, they did not seek a dictatorship led by themselves and they would have laughed themselves into a stupor at the moronic posturing of second rate musicians who claim to be part of the grand conspiracy.
