The primary season has not yet begun. That starts in January.

Currently, there are only two major candidates running for the Democratic nomination, so there is little need for them to debate. Republicans have/had 16 candidates, so these debates help the candidates to promote themselves.

Do realize that the debates are usually organized by the candidates themselves, via television networks, not the party. If a frontrunner is way ahead, he or she will not debate, because there is little to gain.

I could say that the democrats couldn't find enough intelligent people to hold a debate, or that a debate would be useless as they all follow the exact same party line, but that would be tacky!

The actual reason is that it is not time yet. They will have 6 debates (all well advertised) starting with Las Vegas in October.

And could you possibly imagine how boring a debate would be between Clinton and Sanders? At least the republicans are entertaining in a strange sort of way. The only problem is that Trump is leading and Bush is second. There are actually some good candidates in that field that have no chance of winning the nomination.

Each party is an independent entity and decides for itself what it will do. There is no law saying that there must be debates at all. Since there are presently 16 people vying for the R nomination, it will take more time to weed them out.

With fewer than 5 announced D candidates for nomination, the task is shorter.

The republicans have 15+ candidates right now while there are only 5ish democrats so far. So they need to have more debates earlier on to try to slim the field down to a more reasonable number closer to the primaries.

I think they are on separate dates.

They separated the Republican debates because there are so many candidates.

1st group are the low-tiered and 2nd are the ones with the highest polls.

The Democrats don't have more candidates than they can handle. You need seven dwarfs and the Republican have what, 16?

it's not time for the democratic debates yet

Because none of the Democrats has anything intelligent to say.

What will they debate? Who will punish the rich more? Who will import more poverty? Who will give our enemies more opportunity to strike us and our allies? Who will spend us in to oblivion first?
