Husband and Houskeeper?

I was at the hospital with my sick husband when a cleaning lady came in and started speaking to my husband in spanish, turns out they are both Pueto Rican. I was watching Tv and minding my own business. She loudly ask me if I speak spanish. I said no. she then asked me why don't you speak spanish. I told her I was Irish and spoke English. She then told me "Well you should learn to speak spanish". She then said I speak Spanish and English you should too. I told her I did not like the way she was talking to me. She then went on for at least another 5 minutes chatting away speaking spanish with my husband. Am I wrong to be annoyed with my husband for continuing chat with her and not shutting down the conversation. When she left the room she turned and gave me a nasty look.

Hi Mammee. Indeed she was mean to you..However, did your husband witness the way she was talking to you? Now if your husband witnessed how she talked to you, maybe he didn't say anything because he was feeling sick and didn't want to make a scene?

Either way, what she told you doesn't make any sense, obviously she speaks spanish since she was born in a spanish speaking nations.. and now she speaks english because i presume that you guys live in an english speaking nation..You on the other hand weren't born in latin america or Spain therefore there's no reason as to why you should know Spanish.

Please forget about this incident! I'm a native spanish speaker since i was born in south america and it just doesn't make any sense to expect a person from Ireland to be able to speak spanish! however i think you should forget about this incident... don't let it bother you.

God bless you and your marriage/family.
