Do you think welfare is helpful or does it just make people lazy?
I feel like it makes people lazy because I grew up in a 3rd world country and everyone worked REALLY hard to earn their money but when I moved to a 1st world country I noticed people get paid welfare and the government says "they need it. they are poor". It's called moving up in society. I saw really poor people in 3rd world countries work their way up. 1st world's are lazy and the poor get paid to do nothing. Would you agree?

You grew up in a third world country? So you should know that in a third world country, you are likely to starve to death, not because there is no work, but because there is no food to buy, even if you have money. Third world poverty is due to lack of resources and jobs that pay a living wage. No matter how hard you may work in a third world country, you will never get out of poverty unless you have a connection to someone in a rich country.
Just because a person lives in a rich 1st world country, does not mean that they can be wealthy. There are not enough jobs to go around and the wages are not enough to get you out of poverty. Many very rich corporations pay only the minimum wage, which is hardly enough to feed yourself, let alone pay your rent and all your bills. Not everyone on benefits is lazy. Some people are genuinely in need because they are disabled, sick, elderly or living in an area where work is very difficult to find. Some may be war veterans who have lost a limb or two and are unable to work. Some are mentally unstable. Are you going to call all of these LAZY too? Just because you are lucky enough to have found your way in life, doesn't mean everyone can be as lucky as you. Thank God there are success stories like you. But be mindful of the fact that God does not smile upon everyone in the same way.

Ideally, welfare was set aside to help those who truly cannot help themselves, or those who have a hard time making ends meet. Unfortunately bureaucracies are very rarely capable of dealing with delicate situations, and this is one such. Instead of examining claims in a case by case basis, we have a one-size-fits-all definition of who qualifies and.who doesn't. Often this leads to the disqualification of those who might deserve it, and an overqualification of those who don't technically need it.
So to answer your question, yes, I do think welfare is helpful if it was implemented properly. Unfortunately as it is, the lazy will always find a way to take advantage of it.

DEPENDS on the PERSON or FAMILY getting the WELFARE - some it helps , some it don't beings a lot of PEOPLE are LAZY to begin with ... but instead of TRYING to blame WELFARE People with your FOOLISH AGENDA ... take a look at the GREED of others who earn 10, 20, 30 or more MILLION DOLLARS a YEAR as if they deserve it ... which , they don't deserve, no HUMAN DOES !!!

I can make one thousand dollars a month and retain government subsidised income. Money's not easy to come by. I think it can help people get back on their feet after an accident. Of course, earn enough after nine-months to a year and you lose the extra income. Some people that lose high-paying jobs will stay on the unemployment stateside.

It can make employers and governments lazy as well because then they do not have to deal with the underlying causes of a broken economic policy.

It is helpful if managed well by government and not abused by people. Sometimes it does make people lazy.
