It's not a legal matter. It's not illegal for a 15-year-old to go see an R-rated movie, but the movie theaters block it by policy since that is what is recommended by their ratings system.

Same here, Being 15 and trying to by an M-rated game isn't breaking any laws, but many merchants will block the sale since they don't meet the recommendations by the gaming ratings system.

Some companies may allow the sale anyway. GameStop will card and block, unless a parent with with them and they ask, "Is this ok with you?"

My son has bought many M-rated games (Call of Duty) and as long as I give the nod, they make the sale, even if I never touch the money or the merchandise.

It isn't any laws, it's just store policies aligning with the ratings system.

But yes, they may card you, but if you are 17, they will make the sale to you without further complication.
