That IS due to your insulin resistance, sir.
The higher your insulin resistance, the more insulin you would require to drop your blood glucose level by any given amount. (I appreciate that it's a little different, but I'm a type 1 and I'm particularly insulin sensitive. 1 unit of insulin lowers my blood glucose level by approximately 70 points.)
It DOES also make a difference as to which specific type of insulin it is you're using. Longer acting insulins and/or mixed insulins tend to not drop blood glucose levels very quickly, whereas fast-acting or regular insulins tend to lower blood glucose levels much more rapidly.
