Anarchy comes from words that mean "no ruler".

An economic anarchist is a person who believes that people should get and provide all goods and services without a ruler, king, dictator, president, prime minister, or any government ordering people around, forcing them to buy things they don't want, and stopping them from selling things they do want.

For example, look at how we make friends or sexual partners. There is no big government Department of Social Relations to make rules for how people make friends. We don't have to apply for a licence to make friends. We don't have to fill in any forms, or pay any fees, or do any compulsory training. People are free to enter into whatever friendships they want. So long as they don't use force or threats, that is anarchy.

Economic anarchists believe that exactly the same should apply to all other social relations, and all other goods and services.

Since government is based on threatening to imprison people for not paying tax, and that's how government gets its revenue, this means economic anarchists believe that government is a violent, abusive, corrupt, wasteful thing.

For example, many governments fund radio or TV stations. Economic anarchists *recognise* that they get the money by threatening to imprison people where they are also at risk of being attacked and raped. Therefore economic anarchists are opposed to governments running radio or TV stations. If people want to listen to a particular radio station or watch a particular TV station, they should pay for it if they want it, and not be forced to pay for it if they don't want it.

That's what an economic anarchist believes - in relation to *all* goods and services.

Think of it this way. We consider rape to be bad, but making love to be fine. Both of them involve having sex. So what's the difference? Making love is *voluntary*, but rape is *forced*.

An economic anarchist is simply someone who believes that *all* social relations should be voluntary, and that no-one - including government - should initiate aggression against another person.

That's it. This rules out all governmental provision of services, and replacement with voluntary agreements instead.
