What is q if 10=25(0.88)^q?
10 = 25 (0.88)^q
First isolate the 0.88^q by dividing both sides by 25...
10/25 = (25 (0.88)^q) / 25
10/25 = 0.88^q <-- simplify fraction..
(10/5)/(25/5) = 0.88^q
2/5 = 0.88^q
Let's take the base 10 logs of both sides of the equation..
log (2/5) = log (0.88^q)
On the right side, bring down the exponent 'q' of the argument to become the coefficient of the log by power property: log (a^x) = x log a..so..
log (2/5) = q log 0.88
Now simplify by dividing both sides of the equation by log 0.88
(log (2/5))/(log 0.88) = (q log 0.88)/(log 0.88)
(log (2/5))/(log 0.88) = q <-- answer....or..
7.17 = q <-- decimal approximation to two decimal places...
