army exodus leave in basic training?
Id like to know if I can request some sort of advance pay or get a quick loan at basic training before I come back home. I ask this because I leave on November 16 and will only have one month of pay (minus the PX card money). I would have to buy plane tickets to home and back and pay some bills and will be left with almost nothing to buy some gifts for my little sisters.
I can choose to stay at the fort and save that money and possibly get my sisters gifts online, but my AIT is over a year long and want to spend this christmas at home.

It doesn't matter, because of liberty travel restrictions. This isn't high school, where you get Christmas break. If you have to fly home, chances are your home is out-of-bounds for liberty. Besides, you won't graduate BCT until around January 18th anyway, if you start on November 16.
Well, shoot. I just checked, and I guess the Army is like high school and you do get Christmas break. That was a revelation. Anyway, after taxes you should have around $1,100 to play with, minus PX. Book your flight now for the cheapest air fare.
Someone suggested you apply for a credit card. Not a bad idea at all. Otherwise you might not get to do what you want to do because of funds. I was stuck in the barracks at the Movement Center on Camp Pendleton for 7 days during Christmas, so I know what it's like. It sucks.

No, you will not be able to get an advanced pay payment. I would highly recommend that you don't take leave. You and your family need to get used to the fact that more often than not, you will not be home for the holidays. That you will probably only get home for the holidays every 3-4 years. Save your leave to when you really need to take a vacation/break from work. And you'd save a bunch of money.

your sisters do NOT need presents. you cannot afford the plane tickets, advance leave and presents. the worse way to start your military career is by being in huge debt that you cannot easily climb out from under.
also, get used to the fact that you will NOT be able to go home and you WILL miss many family get togethers over the next 4-6 years of your life.

They will book the tickets for you and deduct it from your pay. You will be lucky to have a few bucks for the holidays to be honest. And there is no guarantee your first pay will be issued as it can take a month or longer to be paid.
Do NOT buy the ticket in advance as there can be issues. No guarantee you will even go.

You do realize that you only get 2.5 days of leave a month right? So that is the MAX you could take.
Save your money. Save your leave.
