How to get to the next step in barrels?
Soo I've had slower barrel runs since spring really. We've had my mare checked, she's heathy, fit, teeth are good, everything. I know it's me who's causing this.. I guess I've just stopped pushing her enough. So tomorrow is my last day running barrels for the year. Today I ran another slow run, a 20. The girl who won got like an 18.1, it's frustrating because I know my mare can easily run that. Today I felt like I ran good but I really didn't. I want an 18 tomorrow. At least a low 19. How do I get it in my head to really push? My parents are going to be mad if I get another slow run.

Get your energy up, get excited about the run, and your horse will too. Talk to her when you take her up, praise her, do things that get her to want to show off.. even pet a few of the other horses. she will want to get your attention and show off to win you back. (make sure you change your cloths before riding though you don't want her smelling the other horses on you.) And remember if your afraid, or frustrated the horse will sense it. So don't get jumpy because she will worry about messing up the run and slow down.

Based on the other posts you toss up here... It's you. Let some one else ride this horse on the clock... somebody who understands how to hit the key and let the horse have room enough to turn the barrel and rides well enough to turn her loose on the way home.
BTW... how many cans did you knock over this summer?
