Holding my breath and concentrating is the ONLY method that's ever had even minimal success with me. It's not 100%, but it's better than anything else.

Your body is a machine. You can control it. Visualize your esophagus..calm your body and focus on it to stop convulsing..hold breath, once you feel it calm, slowly start to breath again. It works for me, anyway.
