Is it illegal to touch someone without permission?

Non sexually. I know that assault is illegal, but technically you can assault someone without even touching them. In the US, is non threateningly and non sexually touching someone illegal?

Why on earth would you want to touch someone without their permission? You may think it is non-threatening but they may think otherwise. What do you consider non-threatening and/or non-sexual?

Every state has their own laws. In some states, any unwanted touching could be considered assault. It could also be considered disorderly conduct or disturbing the peace.

Yes, in some states you don't even need to touch them. Just putting them in fear of being harmed is called assault, and the actual harm is called battery. This is where the term "assault and battery" comes from.

Depends on why you are touching them. If you know it is unwanted, it's assault and battery.

    So don't do it.
