what's it called when someone says something is true, and a person believes it, so that person can physically feel it?

like say a kid hurts himself and the mom says a kiss will make it better. she then kisses his injury and he really does feel better- because he believes it works.

what's this affect called?

Update:

effect** (I think)

Placebo effect :) pretty interesting really. People who were given sugar pills, told that they were medicated, and then shown symptoms of their illness going away etc etc.
