are you the top 1 percent?
My question is rhetorical in nature, in an attempt to encourage discussion. However, I was reading that when calculated on a worldwide scale to qualify as the top 1% in wealth distribution you would have to earn at least $34,000 USD per year. Of course this simple number is a gross oversimplification of what is wealth, but it does put our view of our "suffering" into perspective.
So my point is that we complain when our house is too big for the signal of wifi router, or when our car is the oldest car in the neighborhood. On a worldwide scale... We ARE the people we hate for not sharing the wealth.

No, but I did have a discussion with a guy recently about the sheer amount of resource wealth available in this country. Just look at food alone. It's said when Gorbachev (Russian leader near end of Cold War) was given a tour in the US and brought to a grocery store, he commented on how they must have emptied the entire city of food in order to put on such a display. And just look at the amount of food that's thrown away without a second thought today. In stores (not considered to be fresh enough), in restaurants, at home. There was some video on a group that made their meals from the city's garbage. Not because they had to, but just to show how much is wasted.
In that regard we're not just wealthy, we are at the absolute top. Until the overuse of our natural water supplies comes to a head. Then we're in real trouble.

No. I am comfortable financially but I am no where near to being in the top 1 percent of the income earners. You won't find anyone on this site who is.

No On a world wide scale I barley fall into the top 5% of world population. Income wise.

That is a hard question to answer. There are so many variables that make
up the so called term. But I am close.

However I am in the middle quintile
Edit for update: Well, I would be top .5% when you put it that way.

"Yes", in the world as a whole. Certainly not in the USA.
