Is engine wiring harness important?

I went to a mechanic for the first time for an engine light. He ends up cutting all my wiring harness except for one of them according to another mechanic Would bad wiring ecen cause an engine light? My car engine would just rev after 25 MPH and not move. My car is a 2000 Buick Century so I had no choice than to get another car. Why would this mechanic cut my wiring harness and isn't it important?

A wiring harness is very important. I have no idea why this fellow would just up and start cutting it. He does not sound like a mechanic. Instead of a new car, buy a new wiring harness and have somebody else install it

Who in their right frame of mind would randomly cut wires, yes a wiring harness is important. Time for a new harness, and a NEW MECHANIC!!

There is an on-board computer that you pull codes from to find out why the light is on. Autozone or O'Rielly's will do it for free Cutting the under-hood wiring harness is a dumb move and could require replacement now that it is done. Everything hooked up on that harness is there for a reason. Find a new mechanic.

Did he make you an offer for the car? Then you have one answer. The other would be his estimate of repair cost.. Again, you have an answer as to 'why'.

Take it to a trusted mechanic. One who knows GM cars.
