Can I change my operating system from window xp to window 7?

I just bought a used Dell Latitude D630 14.1-Inch Notebook PC - Silver 2011 Model. I found out that Microsoft Security Essentials no longer protects Window XP. My main problem however, is that every time I try to go to a site, I get a message saying that it's not safe. If I change the operating system to Window 7, will I still get the same issues.

If this computer currently has Windows XP loaded then the previous owner did this as this computer comes with Windows Vista pre-installed. Here is a link to Dell Support for this laptop - http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-...

If you want to see if this laptop will support Windows 7 you can download the Windows 7 Compatibility tool - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.as...

If it will support Windows 7 there is no upgrade path you would need to do a clean install of Windows 7. Be sure to check if Dell offers Windows 7 drivers before buying a copy of the Windows 7 operating system here - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Sub...

If you are needing a free antivirus check out this link - http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2388652,00.as...

Yes, I'm running Windows 7 on my D630 now - I've also heard from a lot of people who select a Linux distro to run, as that OS is less likely to be hit with as much malware and older tech benefits from the smaller, more tightly written operating system.

Granted, the one computer guru friend really likes Linux - but sometimes you have to pick your operating system based on what you know how to use and what operating system your peripheral equipment is compatible with.

    5204,

Unfortunately, there are no Windows 7 drivers available for download for the Latitude 630 Computer. Windows XP is not longer supported by Microsoft. You could possibly download the free version of Avast anti-virus software or any other free version and install it on your computer. If needed you may need to change the security settings in Internet Explorer by following the information below.

To find Internet Explorer Security settings

Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Internet Explorer.

Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.

Click the Security tab. Change the settings where they are not as strict on websites.

    Thank You,
