I think a lot of us mainline Christians would call this progress within scripture by the term "Progressive Revelation." As time passed, people began to see texts in different ways, perhaps due to their world experience, perhaps due to a more thorough view of meanings, and more recently due to an ability to compare scripture in totally different areas of the Bible with ease, using the computer.

The laity has a single conflated view of The Gospel, because they do not take multiple copies of the Bible and open them to different gospels and compare them, but now with computer assistance, it's easy to compare passages from any book with any other book, and even to compare with texts outside of the biblical canon.

All of these things have greatly impacted the way we interpret scripture, and so the view of one part of the Bible is not always the same as we find in a very different book, for many similar reasons.

    No an evolution. Nothing changed.

But Jesus said "These are the most important commandments:

    (1) Love God with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your strength, and with all you soul.

    (2) Love your neighbor as yourself.

ALL of The Law and The Prophets (The Torah) hang on these two."

SO, Jesus just "condensed" the Whole of The Old Testament into TWO commandments.

Nothing really changed, except the wording.

  • no.... the "New" is a collection of the instruction given by God's Son Jesus The Christ... and it records also Christ's life example.... The Instruction and Life Example of Jesus The Christ are what those of The True Christian Faith strive to follow

The Old contains The instruction(law) of The Creator God as given to The Nation of Israel.... also some history, genealogy, and examples of how to follow the instruction..... and also some examples of those who did not follow the instruction... and what the consequences of that were

A person can better know the true meanings of Bible verses by meditating on them while carefully saying Hail Marys.

    Truth does not evolve

    Truth is immutable, constant

what has changed between the old and the new is our relationship with God

servants no more, now we are children

The bible literalists will supposedly tell you that "nothing at all changes" in the bible. So what they say "god" says in Genesis would be the same thing he says when Jesus "returns." It's a book about nothing.
