Is yahoo answers administered by chimpanzees?
Some random troll user asks: "Why did THIS happen?" with no additional context or details. I foolishly took the bait and answered: "Please add additional supporting details to your question so I can update my answer more appropriately." The user reports me to yahoo. They deduct 10 points and warn me. I appeal: "User asks a rediculous question, I encourage the question to be improved to make yahoo answers a more valuable resource. I request you return my 10 points, and delete the question." Yahoo admin: Appeal denied! Subtract 10 more points. Hence, my question.
@Liberals Are Nuts: My only problem with this is the admins. Yahoo has a report option on answers and questions so that a trusted admin can make the final decision. If the site is filled with MILLIONS of garbage questions and THOUSANDS of good question, who will ever consider this a valuable resource. The admins are not doing their jobs of fairly assessing these reports.
I appreciate all of your answers. For the most part my question was rhetorical in nature. No I don't believe the admins are literally primates. I do want to portray a sense of frustration with the common practice of admins not properly screening the reports that are sent to them. If they are not suitably staffed to deal with them all, I hope that at least that are able to properly handle the very dangerous and common reports of hate speech and the like.
@Variable 46: I see why your account has such a high rating. You contributions to this question were well presented and thought provoking. I awarded you best answer. Thank you to everyone for your feedback.

There is a contingent of users on here that I characterize as Hall Monitors or Barney Fifes, who are intent on enforcing their strict interpretation of "the rules." They've forgotten that Yahoo! Answers used to be about helping people more than it was about following an overly-strict and anal interpretation of "the rules," one of which has been perceived that asking for more information in response to a nebulous question is a violation (the dreaded "non-answer" violation) and thus reportable.
(Side-bar...however, I have seen many of these same people respond to questions like "Why did my question get deleted?" with some variation on "We can't tell without more information" which by their own interpretation of "the rules" is a non-answer! But oh well...do-as-I-say-and-not-as-I-do logic applies there, I guess.)
This explains why your response was reported. As to why it was not restored on appeal...that is because the appeals process is basically dysfunctional. I've seen a study that suggests legitimate appeals are successful only 5% of the time and unsuccessful like 33% of the time...and the rest of the time they're just ignored. I suspect part of the problem is that the appeals have been outsourced and the judiciaries in these situations have English only as a second language.

First of all, the answer is no. Answers is run by a staff of good people while users moderate this site.
Second, you answered a troll question that resulted in the violation. None of this would have happened if you just skipped it altogether or just reported it for trolling. Consider that as a lesson learned.

Response to update 2: I am sure the admins are primates, just not chimpanzees

This has been happening more and more here lately. Those kind of questions are being posted as bait to get people to respond only to report anyone who does. Just report it as not being an answer seeking question.

Are you a chimpanzee? You are one of the moderators. And you gave a non answer, the only thing you can give a non question, which is against the guidelines.
Community moderation
At Yahoo Answers, we rely on the honor system to reward and empower reliable Yahoo Answers contributors.
Community members who consistently and accurately report abusive questions and answers have more influence than others. By the same token, users who report content incorrectly will lose trust. So the level of influence any member of the Yahoo Answers Community has varies constantly dependent on their actions.
If one or more trusted members of the Community report the same question or answer, it will be removed. See our article on reporting abuse to learn more about alerting us to inappropriate content.

The only flaw is you assumed the question asker reported you, yet in fact both the asker and yourself were quite likely reported for the same reason by others.
I'd say some people have nothing better to do with their lives with all this reporting going on.

Indeed, that is idiot. I often ask for more details. So! I don't answer the question. In Yahoo A. we have to post only answers then comments to others answers.
I would feel idiot if I was reporting somebody not answering a question because there isn't enough details.
Unfortunately one person might report your question for attempting to lower the ego of those easily pushing the reporting button.

No and there are decent people (mods) on the site. Your answer was reported as a non answer and hte appeal rightfully denied.

Used to happen to me too until I learned that giving that kind of help will only lose you 10 points. Just don't do it. :)
