why is weed a schedule 1 substance?

Some bureaucrat wanted to build an empire -- to "fight drug abuse."

People with no understanding of pot's effect or benefits as an actual drug that can help some people are in charge of such decisions. There was at least one "committee" that found that pot should be legalized. People in charge dis not want this finding, so they just ignored it and left pot as a schedule 1 illegal substance.

--- Preachers ... especially evangelicals, are against the legalization of pot and the politicians will not stand up against them. So the US is in a very difficult situation ... probably more than 1/2 .. lets get real probably more than 80% of the people have used pot, so they are all technically criminals, but they won't speak up to legalize pot.

---- MY OPINION --- Much of this is a misplaced FORM OF RACISM. Lots of people think of pot users are blacks or mexicans and want them in prison for some small offense.

The government is bought off by pharmaceutical companies, the for-profit prison industry, and all the major corporations who benefit from cheap prison labor.

Marijuana fear-mongering upholds its illegality and subsequently ensures that pharmaceutical companies maintain a monopoly on the drug market and the prison industrial complex can continue to be fueled with grass smokers.

Follow the money.

Weed has been found to contain thirteen of the same Carcinogens found in tobacco smoke. What amazes me is that we actually allow tobacco to be legal.

Naw, schedule one is simply for those substances with extreme abuse potential, nothing more.
