Tell me a story of the day you thought you became a good writer?

The day I thought I became a good writer was a few years ago. I would write every single day for years, so one day I went back and looked at the very first story I had ever written and I saw how much I had improved, compared to my current works. I remember just rereading my first story and then looking at my current writing style and seeing how much I improved. Even though I think I write better now, I still there's still a lot of work and practice I need to do. I still want to become an even better writer.

It wasn't a moment, but I do remember (with pride and pleasure) returning to a story I'd written a decade earlier that I did not believe anyone could shorten to the length for submission. I saw dozens of ways to make it tighter, which I did, cutting the total word count by a lot.

I sold it.

I've never been a great writer. I've won awards for writing, sure. However, I only got those awards due to how horrible the other kids were at expressing themselves--even their parents failed to help them cheat.

for me it kind of just happened all at once. i really loved writing and reading when i was younger (yes, i was a nerdy kid) and it was only when i brought home assignments for language that were marked in the high nineties that i thought you know, maybe i could do something with this ability. so then i started writing my own book, which i finished like two weeks ago and am now looking for publishers that would be interesting in publishing and/or reading it. it was only when i actually started writing that i realized how good i was at it

I can't really pinpoint an exact day to be honest - it was something that happened gradually after years of practice, tearing my hair out and deleting whole pages.

It just happened all of a sudden. I think it happenend because of my frequent letter writing to friends and family. Sp I thought to myself, why not write a book?

It began with thunder lighting my head on fire, bad night out I suppose. I don't remember much after the police arrived. Apparently, they surrounded the house and asked me to surrender. I wrote them a note, "Nuts."

Still waiting for that day. Hopefully sometime soon.
