I struggled with my queen sheets, trying to find the top and bottom. Then, after I made the bed, I used a magic marker to put a small dot on the sheet at the hemline on the headboard and footboard edge of the sheet.

Fold the sheet diagonally and run the two adjoining edges together with your fingers until you get to the end and you will find one is 4" shorter than the other. That is the width and the longer side is the length.

I took a laundry marker and put top on one end and bottom on the other end. The sheet fits everytime.

I try to buy striped sheets to make it easy. You can also look for the tag on the sheet, and then remember whether it goes on an end or a side.

It's very annoying. I figure it out one time and then use a Sharpie to mark the very edge of whatever part belongs at the foot of the bed.

So if it doesn't fit on the bed one way, it'll fit on the other. If you really have to get it right first time, sew a little coloured tab on the middle of one end.
