Most stages fusion bomb? Strongest bomb?

How I understand fusion bombs have stages. In first stage bomb fuse hydrogen then it makes enough heat to fuse helium or lithium and then it's explode. So how many stages and what heaviest element we can fuse in bomb to get strongest explosion?

    <sigh>... the first stage in a FUSION bomb is not fusion of hydrogen. it's fission of a heavy element. The 2nd stage is not fusion of heavy elements... it's fusion of hydrogen.
