I give a thumbs down if someone doesn't actually answer the question, or if they are rude.

For example, if someone asked for advice about a conflict they're having and one of the answers was "I don't know" that doesn't answer anything so I give it a thumbs down." Likewise, if someone answers "Well that's pretty stupid - maybe next time you should actually think before you open your mouth, dumb***", that's quite rude and not helping at all, so a thumbs down.

If someone gives an answer that's particularly thorough or detailed I give it a thumbs up (whether I agree with their perspective or not)

I have done by mistake when Y!A was glitching but usually I don't give any thumbs or I thumb users up. One word answers that are at top of page.. I may thumb down plus when I think a certain user is thumbing me down well I thumb them down aswell.

I will give thumbs down for an incorrect answer. I will not give thumbs down as some people do just because I do not agree with what the answer said. Those answers are usually in religion and politics and I will not thumb down just because I don't believe the way you do.

If the answer is a troll answer, if it's offensive or doesn't even answer the question properly.

When the answer is wrong, also when a person copies and pastes half an encyclopaedia as their answer even though the correct answer has been posted for a long time.

I don't, I don't see any value in doing it.
