Does helping clean junk off my mac make it faster?

okay i have a mac and i sometimes play videogames on it. But some videogames are running at very slow FPS. I downloaded alot of junk and maybe this makes my MAC run slower. Is this the case, if it is what can i do about it? and if its not how can i make it faster? Are there any apps in the Apple store that help or online, and can you give me a download link? THANKS!

    Question :

"Does helping clean junk off my mac make it faster?

    Answer :

Not one whit... unless the startup drive is almost full.

Mac OS X does not notice any of your files. Those files never load into memory at startup or login, so they are just hanging back, so to speak.

You can NOT make a computer overall faster than it was when new, unless you can install more RAM or change the old-school HDD for SSD.

You cannot make the Internet faster, unless you want to surf at 3 a.m. or pay your ISP more money each month for a faster connection.

"some videogames are running at very slow FPS"

It didn't get slow. It was slow from the get-go, you just didn't notice. A high-power graphics chipset will increase frame rate for playing with games.

"I downloaded alot of junk and maybe this makes my MAC run slower."

Well, not because it was junk. Filling the drive space will slow it, but only if the "Available" space is less than 10% of the "Capacity". Select the Macintosh HD in a Finder sidebar, and then at top menu bar, File > Get Info. Performance can be noticeably slower if Available is less than 10%; optimum is 20%.
