How did Aston Villa go from finishing 2nd in 1990 to being bottom now?
Newcastle, Bournemouth and Sunderland being down there is no surprise because they were all in Division 2 in 1990 but its a big surprise for Aston Villa when you expect them to finish 2nd.

A lack of investment. Aston Villa have never really invested money into the team. They have sold a lot of player for big money such as Yorke in 98 and Benteke this year but that money has never been I vested back into the team. I for one hope Villa go done, just because they never show any ambition

Whilst I am a Liverpool fan, selling Benteke was the stupidest move they have made. Benteke was the only real stand out player for Villa last season and if they had him this season they would be mid-table, guaranteed.

well every dog has its day.. but really there loads of reasons.. the manager must take 80% of the blame.. but normally its the board..poor investment ,low moral loses the heart and taste of wanting to win, sometimes its selling good players for the balance sheet

25 years are a lot of time.
Even six years are a lot of time, I mean six years ago, Bournemouth played in the 4th division, what you dumb Brits strangefully call League Two.
I mean WTF why call it League Two when it's obviously League Four?
